What to Buy Rich People?
It might be Xmas or a birthday coming up and you are lucky enough to know someone rich.
If you are rich yourself that is not so hard. Just buy them something ridiculously expensive that you can afford and they will like.
For people who are not super rich themselves it is more difficult. You need to find something to give pleasure and be appreciated.
When money is an issue it can be hard choosing a gift that ticks the right boxes.

This page contains mostly affordable ideas and products I know from experience that people buy.
The suggestions are listed in AZ sequence.
There are Amazon links to some products and a few links to my own hand drawn gift designs with a humorous twist. A product such as a mug or a tie with a cool cartoon style design may be as well appreciated as spending a lot of money on something they already have.
It should be worth scrolling through to see if there are any useful ideas for that rich guy present. The titles alone may provide a few clues. There is a little humor too to keep it light and easy to read.

Age Related Gifts
One good thing about birthday gift-buying is the possibility of buying an age-related present.
Not the 'how old or bald you look' style of frankly insulting present but something that might be appreciated as they celebrate a new milestone. A chance to look back and remember how they used to be. Young and foolish probably but we all went through that.
An appropriate age relevant gift can make a thoughtful offering as a present. No matter how rich or poor we all measure the same in terms of years on earth.
If you type something like 1956 Birthday (paid link) into Amazon it will return a selection of ideas to make a start on choosing something. Other years are available.

Almanac
An almanac is an annual publication of key events in the calendar often to do with farming, tides, sporting events - that kind of thing.
It is possible to buy Almanac Style Birthday Presents (paid link) and these are a reasonably priced possibility. Get one for the year of their birthday (obviously) and marvel at how things were back then.

Art
Yes, rich people like art. You can't afford it. No one can.
Book by Dr.Seuss
Occasional sales from this page provide valuable feedback on what people actually choose as gift ideas.
So I know there is a Dr.Seuss book - You're Only Old Once (paid link) - which is a best-seller. It sounds like an excellent present for an oldie of any age.

Bookmark
I include this because someone bought it after viewing this page - and it is kind of cool. A JRR Tolkien Quote Bookmark (paid link) with engraved lettering and wood finish. If your target gift recipient reads books it makes a classy and relatively inexpensive gift.
Other quotations are available of course - a bookmark seemed a good idea for a simple, easily mailable, gift.
Here are some more people have chosen.
Ralph Waldo Emerson Quote (paid link) - what lies within us
Dalai Lama (paid link) - old friends, new friends

Books In General
Some people don't read. They will not appreciate a book unless it has a lot of pictures or a Secret Compartment (paid link) for valuables.
For people who do read there is an infinite selection of reading material. If you can find the right book it will usually be reasonably priced for a gift. An added bonus of books is the ideal shape for wrapping. No fiddly problems as with bottles or other odd-shaped presents.
Choosing a book is relatively straightforward. What people do they respect, what interests do they have? Try out some search terms like Biographies (paid link) and read some reviews.
I will add this link for Kindles (paid link) just to show how with it I am. Some people like them although there is nothing like a real gift-wrapped book in my opinion.

Candles
Surely the rich person can afford to have their electric lights on even in these trying times? That is what candles mean to me. A source of light when the power goes off.
Into my small world comes this product which someone bought. A Happy Birthday aromatherapy candle with crystals and colors and scents and stuff. I guess people like them.
Aromatherapy Birthday Candle (paid link)
Other more traditional candle ideas are Birthday Candles (paid link) and of course Xmas Candles (paid link)

Chocolates and Treats
A sweet tooth gift box is not a bad idea for an inexpensive present. A treat that the recipient can dip into as they please. No danger of getting the wrong thing, everyone likes chocolate. Nearly everyone.
Here is a variety, treat yourself. I mean, choose a thoughtful present for your gift recipient.
Candy Gift Box (paid link) - aarrggh, my teeth
Finlandia Fruit Jellies (paid link) - inexpensive box of jelly fruits
Marzipan Fruits (paid link) - good looking, tasty
Laumiere Gourmet Fruits (paid link) - these look delicious!
Lindt Truffles (paid link) - grown up sweets
Turkish Delight (paid link) - makes a change from chocolate
Mmmm.

Coin Presents
The great thing about coins is they are real, historic and handily have a proper year on them. Sometimes they are no longer in circulation or they are collectors pieces. There is an entire range of coins and things made from coins to choose from.
This is a link to a 1956 birthday pair of Silver Nickel Cufflinks (paid link). A pretty cool gift and of course available in a whole range of years.
A hot money subject is Bitcoin. No one understands them but there are fortunes being made and lost. One idea might be this gold-plated Bitcoin (paid link) - a lot cheaper than the real (virtual) thing.

Cufflinks
Cufflinks are a relatively inexpensive and thoughtful purchase. A huge range of designs is available with monogramming or initials being a popular choice.
These Initial Cufflinks (paid link) from Amazon are a reasonable mid-price idea.
And without being a shrinking violet - here are my own unique designs on Fun Cufflinks for the man who wears shirts that need them. These are sensibly priced and humorous with every pastime under the sun.

Desk Top Games
If someone is wealthy they probably have a leather top wooden desk with an office that looks like a small library. Other people make do hot-desking at cubicles alongside three hundred others in a cube farm.
Popular inexpensive gifts for desktops are items like a Mini Golf Game (paid link) or Pool Playing Set (paid link). People still buy these desk toys which are a popular small item.
My preference is for something like this good quality Newton's Cradle (paid link). A classic design which is attractive and adds interest.
Someone recently bought one of these Spinning Physics Toys (paid link). A physics holographic art disk thing that looks ideal for playing with in an idle break from the wheels of commerce. When you look at this toy a whole world of other suggestions from Amazon pop up - things that look pretty cool for the guy with a big desk to fill.
And someone else bought a Desk Sculpture (paid link) toy with magnetic balls that you can build into shapes. Like doodling while on the phone without writing all over important paperwork.

Desk Tops Other
There are other relatively cheap gift ideas for a desk top. Coasters, Mouse Mats, pen holders. These can be thoughtful gifts - perhaps personalized or with his favorite hobby as a design.
Oftentimes the desk top furniture is corporate sponsored - services and products displayed. It is a nice change to have a fun and different design to brighten up the day.
Here is a cool gadget with a practical purpose - Coffee Cup Warmer (paid link) - for keeping your hot beverage hot. Nearly every cup of my work coffee ends up half full, or half empty, of cold liquid. Work distracts from the important issue of actually drinking it while still warm.

Food and Drink
From Chocolates (paid link) to Wine (paid link) and a range of Delicacies (paid link) there is an endless variety of consumables and prices to tickle a rich man's taste buds.
Some foodstuffs can be problematic. Keep in fridge, consume within number of days, allergy issues. Check the use by dates especially when buying ahead of time.
Drink is easier to store. A fine bottle of Scotch or similar may make a perfect and welcome gift. Amazon don't sell spirits so that means a different shopping visit. Don't forget a wee dram for yourself. Someone bought this nice Whisky Stones and Glasses set (paid link), it looks like a nice present for a lucky person.
As well as stuff you can put or pour in your mouth there is a huge range of equipment for making, storing and preparing food. Cheese knives, kitchen towels, special frying pans - an endless set of possibilities in the Kitchen Gifts (paid link) department.
If you need to sneak around their house and see what they are missing remember to take a notebook next time you visit.
A fun (and expensive) idea is this Cocktail Making Set (paid link). That is just one item from millions in the never ending journey of related product at Amazon!

Food Hamper
A Food Hamper (paid link), sometimes called a Gourmet Gift Basket (paid link), is a collection of tasty treat style edibles often in a traditional wicker basket. These can be a well-appreciated present, particularly for people who perhaps don't get to treat themselves often enough.
Food hampers can be a real help to an older or poorer person when expensive times like Xmas are approaching. Make sure it is delivered in advance of them doing their own Xmas food shop and don't tell them how much it cost.

Gift Cards
When all else fails the Gift Card (paid link) is an easy alternative to finding a good present. The downside of giving a card is the money you spent on it is obvious. The plus side is the recipient gets the fun of spending that money on a luxury they can choose all for themselves.
Many bricks and mortar stores do cards but they restrict you to using the card at their outlets. So do Amazon but as they have the largest choices in the world, are online, and they deliver - there is little contest as to which card to buy in my opinion.
One great advantage of the Amazon Gift Card (paid link) is as an emergency standby. Send one via email on the special day itself and pretend that was the intention all along.
Having typed all that I realize that giving a gift card which is essentially money to someone who already has money is pointless. A Gift Card for the wealthy is an absolute last resort.

Golf
It seems like all rich people play golf so the chances of your rich guy being a keen leisure golfer are fairly high.
People who move in the upper earning circles need to be out on the greens discussing the next business deal. It is an ideal sport for networking being in some ways like a four hour long water-cooler meeting.
There is a lot of golf equipment and accessories starting with Golf Balls (paid link) and Tees (paid link) and moving up. Golf Club Covers (paid link) are useful. One idea that stood out to me, given my clubs are usually buried behind other stuff in the garage, were these Golf Storage Units (paid link) to keep equipment accessible and tidy.
Another interesting idea is this Golf Net Bundle (paid link), a practice net and surfaces for some home hitting.
Here is one of my own golf designs showing a keen golfer driving the ball down the fairway. There is a brief moment of hope just before striking the ball which disappears immediately after contact.

Hobbies, Pastimes and Sports
If you know what the guy is interested in there will be a whole range of add ons for that activity. For example golf balls for golfers. But you can easily search those on Amazon. Type in "golf balls" for example!
There are hundreds of humorous hand drawn pictures on this site under the SPORTS and PASTIMES sections. All the designs link directly through to gift products including the usual cards, mugs and tees but with much more such as ties and cufflinks.
These are different, colorful, exclusive and a world away from anything you can find in the local store. So he won't already have one. More importantly he won't know how much it cost! "It's art" you can say and just about get away with it.

Last Minute
An Amazon eGift Card (paid link) is the only last minute thing I can think of. There are other fancy e-style gifts but my technical knowledge is too limited to understand them.
In the old days we would rush to the local shops and spend hours on a frustrating search eventually buying something, anything to at least prove you tried. With restrictions and a changing world it is not certain that bricks and mortar shops will still exist, be open, and have stock.
One day we will be so advanced you will ask Alexa to sort the selection, purchase, and probably wrap it too.
You could possibly get away with being let down by a late delivery saying "I ordered it months ago" - but you still need to come up with the goods at some point.
Note to self. Create a late gift excuses page sometime with a list of popular reasons. "The cat ate it", "Dad sat on it", etc.

Miscellaneous
The products on this page are largely based on items real people have bought. Sometimes products defy categorization. This section is for special one-off luxury items.
Electric Wine Bottle Opener (paid link) - for when the butler has a day off.
Ice Cream Maker (paid link) - make frozen desserts in minutes. Start saving up!
Hover Pen (paid link) - I include this because it looks super cool, as well as being rather expensive of course. I want one!
Watch Winder (paid link) - did you even know there was such a thing? Stores up to 4 watches AND winds them. For the man who has everything, except the time to wind a watch obviously.

Mugs
A mug is a personal fun unique gift for a person. It is something they may use every day or place on their desk as a pen or bits and bobs holder.
There are over five hundred different Fun Mug Designs in my collection! I challenge you to be unable to find one they would like. Sports, interests, work and hobbies with a humorous twist.

Newspaper for Original Birth Date
This was a pretty neat idea although they seem to be unavailable at present. An actual Genuine Newspaper (paid link) printed on their birthday! A chance to see what the world was like back then and be amazed at the prices in the ads or the fashion of the day.
There are other Birthday Newspaper (paid link) gifts which hearken back to those times.
When they stop printing newspapers and we want something similar in fifty years time it will probably be a screenshot. They will call it progress but it won't be the same.

Personalisation
Put the initials or name of the person on any product and you immediately have something that is a little more than the original item. Pencils, golf balls, coasters - take a design and add the persons name to it.
Here are a few popular products for adding personalization.
Mugs - add name, message and photo
Pens - can be nice, stops people pinching them!
Wallet - another of those gift ideas that is sometimes appropriate

Politics
A fun design or other product relating to the recipient's political beliefs may be well appreciated.
It is important you know which way your recipient leans of course.
It will make a big difference in how the gift is received!

Puzzles
This Sherlock Holmes Puzzle Book (paid link) caught my eye. A reasonably priced, time absorbing piece of fun for fans of the Great Detective and puzzles.
The genius of a small present like this is its low cost, obviously, but also its thoughtfulness. A present to enjoy long after the socks have faded, the sweets eaten or the whisky drunk.
Here is another cool idea, a Puzzle of Vintage Book Covers (paid link), ideal for a vintage reader who does puzzles!
A few more puzzle ideas.

Puzzle Box Brain Teasers (paid link)
Sudoku Puzzles (paid link)
And here is one of my own designs for puzzle fanatics. Not actually a puzzle but a humorous graphic on tees, mugs, etc.

Rich Guy Designs
In theory we can all be rich. With knowledge, health and good friends - there are many ways to feel rich without a large bank balance.
Although money helps.
Drawing a bank statement, while it may be an accurate representation of wealth, is not very exciting or interesting. So my best effort is a slightly paunchy guy with a top hat and a fine cigar.
The Rich Guy design at the top of this page is at my store on mugs, cards and many other gift products.

Socks
Even rich people wear socks unless they are young, trendy and living in Monte Carlo. The ultimate standby gift if you get some Funny Socks (paid link) or perhaps a pair of quality Thermal Walking Socks (paid link).
I wasn't planning to spend much time on socks but experience shows their popularity as gifts. So here is a link to my own Novelty Sock Collection using unique hand drawn designs from this site.

Sweets
More specifically Retro Sweets (paid link). Sweet treats from childhood days that fell out of fashion or are no longer stocked locally.
These are a real blast from the past and make a fun gift that is bound to contain something they used to enjoy. Although eating these childhood sweets can be harder work with adult teeth and taste buds, the wrappings are a fun reminder of earlier and younger times.

Ties
A tie is not a bad mid-range gift to give. Relatively inexpensive unless you choose some Fancy Silk Ties (paid link). They are nice though. A recent sales item was this Hand Made Paisley Tie (paid link) and pocket square gift, surprisingly inexpensive.
My own unique designs are on a large Range of Novelty Ties for sporting and hobby interest. They make an amusing small present for someone who still has to wear a tie on occasions. At the last count there were 644 of them! I work too hard.

Wrapping Paper
Cheap and cheerful paper from stores is OK when wrapping a large number of toys for kids. They just rip it off to get to the goodies.
A quality gift offering (or recipient) deserves a decent Gift Wrapping Paper (paid link). While some wrapping paper can be pricy it helps to make an impression. Especially if your gift is one among many on the pile.
Wrapping paper also helps to color code the gifts so you know who gets what from under the tree.
Appearances can be important, and gift wrap is one way to generate a little extra interest.

Xmas
If Xmas or some other festival (trying to be inclusive) is the reason for the gift then there are a few billion Xmas related gifts out there. From the deeply religious to the casually offensive there is a wide choice to wade through.
The Xmas Nativity scene below manages to cover a few bases by being celebratory in a simple graphic way. Xmas, especially the religious side, should be fun not miserable.
Disclaimer. Yes, it is my design. It's what I do. May as well try to sell it!

Zodiac Star Signs
One obvious birthday idea is signs of the zodiac. It does not require a belief in the astrological process to appreciate a star sign for the month of your birth.
Although it helps if they are not an out and out cynic.
I am building up a selection of my own Zodiac Designs - trying to combine design appeal with respect for the sign plus a little humor. They are not very good, don't bother with the link. Well, the Sagittarius one is OK.
If you try Zodiac Gifts @ Amazon (paid link) then the lists are frankly enormous, too many to scroll through for sure. Perhaps trying to hunt for the right Zodiac sign and product is a tough ask.

The End
That is all the present ideas for now. From time to time extra ones are added. Sometimes when the sales stats from this page show what real people buy for others and occasionally when I am browsing for myself and stumble on things I think are cool.
I wish you and your gift recipient the very best and hope you get them something that is appreciated!
Oh, and Merry Xmas or Happy Birthday, whichever is more appropriate.
